-
Leave the bandage on: a. After your tattoo session, your artist will cover the tattoo with a sterile, adhesive bandage or wrap. b. Keep the bandage on for the time specified by your artist (typically 1 hour) to protect the tattoo from external contaminants until you get home.
-
Gently clean the tattoo: a. Once you remove the bandage, gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. b. Use your clean hands to create a lather and carefully clean the tattooed area. c. Rinse thoroughly with water, ensuring all soap residue is removed.
-
Pat dry and air-dry: a. After washing, pat your tattoo dry with a clean, soft towel. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the tattooed area. b. Allow the tattoo to air-dry for 10-15 minutes to ensure complete dryness before proceeding.
-
Apply a thin layer of aftercare product: a. Once your tattoo is completely dry, apply a thin layer of a recommended aftercare product, such as a specialized tattoo ointment sold in the studio or purchased at local supermarkets. b. Gently massage the product into the tattooed area, ensuring complete coverage but not over-saturating the skin.
-
Repeat cleaning and moisturizing routine: a. Clean your tattoo 2-3 times per day using the same gentle washing technique described in Step 2. b. After each cleaning, apply a thin layer of aftercare product to keep the tattoo moisturized and protected. c. Continue this routine for at least 2-4 weeks, or until your tattoo is fully healed.
-
Avoid excessive moisture and soaking: a. During the healing process, avoid exposing your tattoo to excessive moisture, such as long baths, hot tubs, saunas, or swimming pools. b. Limit your showers to quick, lukewarm rinses, and avoid direct water pressure on the tattooed area. c. Pat the tattoo dry after washing or if it becomes wet accidentally.
-
Protect your tattoo from the sun: a. Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight during the healing process and beyond. b. If your tattoo will be exposed to the sun, apply a high SPF, broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect the area from UV rays. c. Wearing loose, protective clothing over your tattoo is also recommended, especially during the initial healing stages.
-
Avoid picking, scratching, or picking scabs: a. It is natural for your tattoo to scab a little and form a thin layer of dry skin during the healing process. b. Avoid picking or scratching at scabs, as this can result in colour loss, scarring, or infection. c. Let the scabs naturally fall off on their own, and do not forcefully remove them.
-
Be cautious with clothing and activities: a. Wear loose-fitting clothing that allows your tattoo to breathe and avoids excessive friction against the tattooed area. b. Avoid activities that may cause excessive sweating, chafing, or dirt exposure on your healing tattoo.
-
Monitor for signs of infection or complications: a. While rare, infections or complications can occur during the healing process. b. If you notice increased redness, swelling, pus, excessive pain, or any other unusual symptoms, consult a healthcare professional immediately and inform your Artist with photos.
Remember, every individual and tattoo is unique, so slight variations in healing time and aftercare may occur. If you have any concerns or questions during the healing process, don't hesitate to reach out to your artist or a healthcare professional for guidance.
